What is the KS1 Reading SAT?

The KS1 reading SATS are split over two papers. The first paper is a selection of texts totaling 400 to 700 words, with questions interspersed. This means the child will read a paragraph of the text and then answer some questions about that paragraph. Paper 2 is a reading booklet with a selection of passages totaling 800 to 1100 words. Children write their answers in a separate booklet so this paper focuses more on children being able to locate parts of the text needed to answer the questions. Some schools may also sit two separate papers in grammar, spelling and punctuation but this is up to the individual schools. In September 2017 it was announced that these SATs will become non-statutory (so schools will be able to choose whether to administer them or not) from September 2023.
