What is GCSE English?

GCSE exams have undergone a lot of change in recent years. Now days, there are no foundation or higher tiers, no coursework and you are not allowed texts in the exam. For English Literature the pupil is expected to have memorised a variety of quotes from a Shakespeare play, a 19th Century Novel and several poems. Assessments will include Creative Reading, Creative Writing, Fictional Texts, Descriptive/narrative writing, Extended writing, Non-fiction texts, literary non-fiction texts, Use of standard English, Presenting and Responding to questions and feedback.

English Language and English Literature GCSE's are usually compulsory in most schools.
