The exam boards are responsible for setting the papers and the set texts for exams. They also set the dates and complete the marking as GCSE's are not marked internally. The exam boards in England are primarily OCR (Oxford, Cambridge and RSA), Edexcel (Privately owned by Pearson) and AQA (Assessment and Qualifications Alliance). In Wales pupils may sit the WJEC (Welsh Joint Education Committee) and in Northern Ireland they may sit the CCEA (Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment).
