The new scales are still broadly linked to the old alphabetical scales but marks now go from 9 to 1. 9, 8 and 7 are linked to the old A and A* and allows a better spread and more accurate interpretation of where your child lies. 4 is aligned with grade C and is considered the bottom of the “strong pass”.
